Riverside County 4th in U.S. Housing Growth

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

If you live in Riverside County, you’re not surprised that The Press-Enterprise (8/21/06) reports that the county ranks 4th in the nation for most housing units built between July 1, 2004 and July 1, 2005.

No wonder we get caught in traffic snarls! This is a popular place to live!

During the period mentioned, builders constructed 29,689 housing units in Riverside County, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. San Bernardino added 17,032 housing units to rank 8th in the nation.

Los Angeles County ranked 6th with 19,950, and San Diego County ranked 12th with 13,964.

In case you’re wondering, a housing unit is defined as a house, apartment, mobile home/trailer, group of rooms or single room occupied as separate quarters (like a Granny flat, I imagine).

The article by Joan Osterwalder also mentioned that the median sale price for a home in Riverside County is about $425,000. Tha’s still a bargain compared to home prices in San Diego and Orange counties.
